Pledge With Matthew Mayfield's Music And Get Him To 100%!

As you know, I'll sing it from the rooftops how incredibly talented and nice the kid that Matthew Mayfield is, and he is coming out with even more exciting stuff for 2012! He will be heading to the recording studio to record his new, full-length record, and he needs YOUR help. Currently, his pledges are at 79%, and he only needs 21% more to reach his goal.

He's got several pretty cool exclusives to add to the mix; i.e., signed and styled vinyl with personal message, customizing your voicemail or get a drunk dial from Mr. Mayfield himself, and signed drumhead, along with many others.

Head on over to Matthew's Pledge Music page, and if you feel compelled to do so, help a brother (and a sista ;)) out!

Album Review: Lana Del Rey's Born To Die Out January 31st

lana_cover_20120125_91655.jpg

Beautiful and controversial songstress, Lana Del Rey's label Interscope, has provided me with an album preview of what will debut for purchase everywhere digitally and in-stores, of her new album Born To Die, debuting on January 31st. Pre-order your copy HERE.

With the deluxe version purchase, fans receive three extra songs, including a Joy Orbison remix of her immensely popular song, that set her on the map, with 'Video Games'.

Despite the billowing, I admire Lana and her music; her voice is enticing, seductive and playful. These whisper through a bit like an illusion, and she displays them best on tracks such as "Off to the Races," "Diet Mountain Dew," "National Anthem". Her voice has a weary display on melancholy tracks with "Video Games," "Dark Paradise," "Carmen" and "Million Dollar Man".

Del Rey writes and sings her life experiences with relationships, people that have mistreated her, and she has no qualms with expressing how she feels; one can feel the tug and war of the highs and lows life has to offer for any and everyone in general, and Lana makes them fun and engaging, evoking sadness when she needs and wants to, then mixes elements of an oozing voice that resonates with you, well after the facade of a pretty face, and the controversy. So, I say to those that have pre-judged Lana based on critics' responses and her live performances, listen thoroughly to Born To Die, and then decide for yourself. Oh, and I can see many women (and some men) fist-pumping and tearing up the dance floor with her anthematic, "Lolita," it's catchy, provocative, and honest. I strongly suggest purchasing the deluxe edition, and the track listing is listed below for both standard and deluxe.

Artist Feature: Lightfoot Releases 'Scarlet Sails' EP January 24th

Based in Washington, D.C., Lightfoot (aka, Jessica Louise Dye), is releasing her 6-song EP, Scarlet Sails on January 24th. It features previous releases of her singles, 'Beaster,' 'As You Can', and '1963'. Jessica's voice is sweet, and loud and raw, at the most sincere times it needs to be. She mixes a delicate blend of rock, pop and folk so nicely and is a pleasure to listen to.

Lightfoot began her musical career upon happenstance; she was honorably discharged from the Air Force,  rejected by her companion, and had to live in her car for several months. During this time, she began delving into music, and her creative passion, became her livelihood.

During 2011, Dye toured and performed at venues such as Knitting Factory in NYC, SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas and BIMA Fest. Towards the end of 2011, she partnered up with The Dunes and Sofar Sounds for a five-week European tour. Lightfoot will be hitting the studio later this year to record and release a full-length album.

On friday, Janury 27th, Black Cat in Washington, DC will be holding a CD release party. If you purchase Lightfoot's CD HERE, and are able to attend the release show (you can purchase tickets HERE), you will receive a FREE 7'' vinyl record!

Tracklisting for Scarlet Sails:

1. Pow Wow
2. City Birds
3. As You Can
4. Caged Bird
5. 1963
6. Beaster

Artist Feature: Introducing from India, singer and actor,Yatharth Ratnum

Having been shown in 162 countries, India's multi-talented youth, Yatharth Ratnum, became known worldwide due to being on a popular competitive singing program on television, during the 200 competition of  L'il Champs. With votes coming in nationwide, he was voted first runner-up. This unique opportunity has given Yartharth the ability to share his musical skill throughout the world, with his upcoming album titled, YATHARTH.

Although Ratnum is young, he sings with an older stance of having been through and obtaining much experience in just a short amount of time. His vocals have a seasoned essence of a musician who has been singing for quite some time. He has previously been bestowed the award for Outstanding International Vocalist from The Young Artist Awards in 2010.

His album was recorded at Thunder Underground in California, with Matt Harris (The Posies, Ian Moore, Roky Erickson) producing, and engineer, Harper Hug (Neil Diamond, Luther Vandross, Indigo Girls).

With his upcoming album, he also is starring in his first movie this year, that will feature several of his songs.

YATHARTH will debut in May online, as well as in-store.
